Essential Oils for Best Scents

Essential Oils for Best “Natural Feeling” Scents

(How-To)

Written By Nigh-Jee

Disclaimer: Consult with a license professional who studied essential oils/carrier oils and skin types before applying on your body. Also, if you, for some reason, can’t use essential oils—you don’t have to. This “How-To” is for people who can.

When it comes to wanting to smell good whilst trying to evade harsh chemicals on sensitive skin, it can be quite a challenge. When you smell good, you feel good. Strong smelling essential oils that have minimalistic and safe ingredients derived from nature is perfect for people who may easily suffer through skin rashes from highly man-made chemicals. This isn’t to say that all man-made chemicals are bad, and this isn’t to say that all organic and minimalistic ingredients are for everyone (some people may have allergies). However, there is something to be said with getting a good “close to natural” scent and actually using ingredients that absorbs into the skin. Humanity is a part of nature, after all.

There are tasks when it comes to actually creating nice smelling bottles of oils or even water sprays infused with essential oils. I’ve been experimenting with essential oils for a few years now and I can safely say— alas, not all essential oils are nice-smelling. However, the fruity, floral, and minty ones tend to go really well individually or mixed together. When it comes to the spices and wood essential oils, they might be good for fighting rashes or insects or bugs—I personally found it a challenge to actually make them smell pleasant for me. If you do find a way, please, share it with the rest of the world! In the meantime, here are a list of essential oils I found to be most beautiful in scent. Keep in mind, all of these essential oils only have one or two ingredients (though, I prefer only one ingredient). The main ingredient should only be what the name of the essential oil is. For example, lemon essential oil’s main ingredient should be “citrus limon” or “lemon oil.” There should be no synthetics.

Here is my list of nice-smelling essential oils:

  • Sweet Peppermint
  • Spearmint
  • Lavender
  • Sweet Orange
  • Lemon
  • Lime (My Favorite)
  • Peppermint

As you read, I am sure you noticed I was very picky because the selection here is small. But if you found anymore that smells amazing, by all means, use it. You can also mix these essential oils together to create more vibrant scents, so don’t worry. On the other hand, the seven essential oils I listed is really pungent by itself, I dare say that lemon and lime are the only ones that, when by itself, is not a pungent scent. But that is completely okay! Essential oils were not meant to be used by itself; these oils were designed to be mixed with other larger amounts of oils, or larger amounts of water.

But… you might be asking, “how do I utilize these oils? How exactly do I measure? What is the ratio between carrier oil/water and essential oil?” Don’t fear, I will describe my way of making these oils. Please keep in mind that this way works for me and my body. It may not work for you. Experiment with measurements if my way of preparing these essential oils do not assist you. On the other hand, the best time to use carrier oils that have been infused with essential oils is after you got out of bathing and dried yourself off, or when you used a damped and soft but thick napkin to wipe whichever part of your body to only then use that nice smelling oil for that particular part of your body.

What You’ll Need

  • Empty Recyclable/Reusable Bottle (About 7 inches in height and about 1 1/2 inches in width)
  • Essential Oils (Any size is fine, as long as you will be able to drop out at least 150 drips around the same amount of time) (Yes, I use that many drops in one bottle)
  • Carrier Oil (Like olive oil, jojoba oil, avocado oil, sweet almond oil, grape seed oil, argan oil, etc) (Keep in mind that the scent of the carrier oil may alter the scent of an essential oil, for example, avocado oil mixed with lime oil may slightly smell different in comparison to olive oil mixed with lime oil—I personally love using grape seed oil)
  • Bottle Funnel (To help guide the oil in the bottle without oil accidentally dropping outward on the bottle)
  • Skinny Bottle Brush (To help clean the inside of the bottle before every use in regard to pouring in new carrier and essential oils)
  • Soft but Thick Napkins You’ll Damp Later (for outside occasions when you’re in a restroom and you want to wipe away any sweat before using the nice smelling oil again after bathing earlier)

Now that you have your carrier oil, essential oil, and bottle; it is time to make a nice aroma for your skin, hair, and nails. These are very simple directions, so please follow as you wish.

Directions (For Carrier Oil)

  • 1) Open your clean bottle
  • 2) Add in 150 drops of essential oil, you can use one essential oil or mix them together within the limit (personally, my body responds well when I drop in these many drips of essential oils—and yes, I do count every drop, or I may drop in a few more than 150 just to be safe in case the drips dropped in too fast!)
  • 3) Pour in your carrier oil of choice (remember to use a bottle funnel to not spill over any essential oil)
  • Close the bottle and shake for at least 30 times
  • To let the smell become stronger within the carrier oil, please make sure to let this concoction sit for at least an hour before use
  • If you ever feel like the scent can be stronger, don’t be afraid to add in a few drops more if you know your skin can handle it

Directions (For Water)

  • Open your 2 fl oz empty reusable/recyclable spray bottle
  • Pour in fresh and filtered water that almost fills the brim
  • Drop in seven drops of essential oils of your choice
  • Close the spray bottle and shake for at least 25 times
  • Let the concoction sit for at least one hour before use

Now that you have your amazingly smelling carrier oil and water spray bottle, you can use it whenever you need to. Remember, the goal is to smell good whilst using minimalistic and “close to nature” ingredients. Also, do not be afraid to freshen up every once in a while, during the day where you are in private and hygienic-focused places. These essential oils should be powerful in smell before mixing in with a carrier oil—always find a brand (that’s easily accessible to you) of essential oils that understand this.
